HAMPDEN – Special Olympians from three counties converged on sites in greater Bangor to compete in the 2020 winter games.
Monday’s rainy weather caused some events to be postponed but not the adult snowshoe races.
Special Olympian Matthew Guerrette shared his plan before competing.
“Run like a cheetah. Great — now, I’m exhausted,” he said afterward.
Nearly 200 Olympians took part in Monday’s activities.
“These are time trials for finals tomorrow. Competition will move to Hermon then so come on out and watch us,” said Special Olympics Area Manager Wendy Gilbert.
On Tuesday, athletes were slated to compete in Nordic and alpine skiing. The finals in the snowshoe races also were planned for that day.
All of Tuesday’s action was scheduled to happen at Hermon Mountain.
