NEWPORT – A spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety says State Police are investigating a domestic violence homicide in Newport.
State Police say 40-year-old Frederick Allen is charged with murder in connection to the death of his wife, Anielka Allen, 37.
There was a police presence in front of a home at 16 North Street for most of the day Thursday.
Authorities were called to the residence as a result of a 911 call at 10 a.m.
Allen was arrested late Thursday afternoon and taken to the Penobscot County Jail.
He’s expected to make his first court appearance on Friday.
McCausland says Mrs. Allen’s body was taken to the medical examiner’s office in Augusta, where an autopsy will be conducted Friday.
According to public safety spokesman Steve McCausland, the couple had lived at the home since 2012.
This is the state’s first homicide of 2020.
