NATIONWIDE — The Internal Revenue Service is mailing out letters to people who aren’t typically required to file federal income tax returns to let them know they may still qualify for an economic impact payment — but time is running out.
The payments were sent out to most people earlier this year.
Individuals can receive up to $1,200 and married couples can get up to $2,400, however, people must register by Oct. 15 to receive a payment by the end of the year.
This month’s letters are being sent to people who haven’t filed a federal tax return for 2018 or 2019 because of very low income.
There are more than 32,000 of them in the state of Maine.
You can register using the IRS’s free tool for non-filers, which can be found by clicking here.
