BELFAST — A Stockton Springs man charged last week with a 36-year-old murder was scheduled to be back in court Monday but the case was continued.
Kirt Damon Sr., 57, now is scheduled for a bail hearing at the Waldo Judicial Center on Oct. 26.
He is charged in the beating death of 63-year-old Dorothea Burke on June 23, 1984.
“She come amongst the missing,” Roxanne Smith, Burke’s niece, said last year on the anniversary of her aunt’s death. “Two days later, somebody had found her body on a back road.”
Smith said her family always suspected Damon.
Burke’s body was found in tall grass near the junction of the Muskrat and Meadow Roads in Stockton Springs.
The medical examiner determined she died of blunt force trauma to her head.
Damon remained in the custody of the Waldo County jail on Monday night.
