HAMPDEN- The sound of sirens isn’t usually a good thing, but for a 6-year-old in Hampden, it was the sound of a birthday surprise.
“My mother in law messaged me because she heard my son was upset he couldn’t have a birthday party because the coronavirus,” said Anthony “AJ” Liberatore’s mom, Joanna Liberatore. “I just put on Facebook ‘would anyone like to drive by my house, roll down their windows, and honk?”
“We’ve had a pretty big year,” she continued. “His autism diagnosis was removed a few years ago. That typically only happens in 4% of children under the age of eight. We have a lot to celebrate this year. I think people have followed our journey and our struggles and our triumphs so everyone just wants to celebrate him.”
Anthony says the parade was more than he expected. He was especially excited for the monster truck that took part.
“In the midst of chaos and uncertainty and economic downfall, something magical is about to happen, so I don’t think anyone should give up hope,” Joanna said.
