CALAIS – The state fire marshal’s office has charged a teenager with allegedly setting fire to her room at a mental health clinic in Calais.
Investigators say it happened Monday at the Aroostook Mental Health Clinic Children’s Project on Palmer Street.
According to a statement from public safety spokesman Steve McCausland, the 17-year-old girl tried to set fire to her mattress and bedding, which set off the smoke alarm.
A staffer dragged the smoldering materials out of the building where the fire was put out.
Police say nobody was injured.
The teen was taken to the Mountain View Correctional Center in Charleston and is expected to appear in Calais District Court.
