ORONO – Officials at the University of Maine system say it’s not possible to hold traditional in-person graduation ceremonies because of COVID-19.
In a statement Monday afternoon, campus leaders said they’re reaching out to students and staff to coordinate an alternative celebration.
Graduation ceremonies across the system were scheduled to be held May 9, per the academic calendar.
Chancellor Dannel Malloy said in a statement all degrees will still be awarded on schedule.
Plans for alternative celebrations are expected to be in place by the middle of April.
