ORONO- Out of the 28 educators who’ve received the Maine Teachers of the Year award, 22 are graduates of the University of Maine system.
On Thursday night, those graduates reunited in Orono to discuss their accomplishments from across the state and the success of various education programs.
Heather Whitaker from Gorha, is the most recent teacher to win the award.
“It’s amazing to be surrounded by so many educators who are passionate about the work that they do, and are passionate about elevating teacher voice across the state of Maine so that teachers can be leaders in their school districts,” she said.
The reunion is a part of the Maine Values You student outreach campaign, which aims for local high school students to pursue further education in the state.
