WALDO — Over the weekend, a Waldo County resident woke up to find her sign vandalized with a painted swastika emblem.
On Aug. 3, Louisa Carl and her family had put up a sign in their front lawn that said,“Black, Brown, LGBTQ Lives Matter Too,” to support movements around the country for equality.
But by the morning of Aug. 8, someone had defaced the sign.
In response to that, Carl had painted over one side of the sign with a heart and said she refuses to be scared into silence.
“I am not backing down at all. My son and I are talking about doing actually way more signs along the road on our house because we’re not going to let up. I’m intentionally leaving the swastika there because I want people to see it, I want people to realize that someone in our community did that,” Carl said.
She added the Maine State Police are currently investigating the vandalism.
