WAYNE – A head-on collision claimed the life of an 84-year-old Wayne woman over the weekend, according to a statement from the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened shortly after noon Saturday on Pond Road in Wayne.
Police said Blanche Fyler was pronounced dead at the scene. They said she was driving a Kia Rio when it collided with a Hyundai.
The statement from Lt. J. Chris Read said 83-year-old James Thompson and Catherine Thompson, 81, were passengers in the Hyundai.
Read said the Thompsons were taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
According to Read, they were expected to recover from their injuries.
The statement from the sheriff’s office says the elder Thompson was driving when the accident happened.
Read said the cause of the crash remains under investigation but snow-covered roads may have been a factor.
