HANCOCK COUNTY – The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office is asking tractor trailer drivers to avoid certain roads due to weather conditions.
In a statement Friday night, the Sheriff’s Office asked tractor trailers and heavy trucks to avoid Route 179 from Ellsworth to Route 9 in Aurora for the next several hours, especially near Osborn and Aurora if possible.
Authorities say those vehicles have been having a hard time getting over some hills, causing traffic issues.
According to the sheriff’s office, a tractor trailer got stuck on a hill and was unable to move forward or backward. As a result, traffic was reduced to one lane.
MaineDOT has also placed a sign alerting trucks to avoid Rte. 179 at the end of North Street in Ellsworth.
Authorities say road crews have also been out plowing and sanding as well.
